Welcome to MyFaceliftSurgery.com. My name is Mike and this is the story of my face lift surgical experience. I put this site together to answer lost of questions from friends and to offer before and after pictures so you can see the results.
Why did I do this? Well, nobody likes looking old. At 64, that was happening to me. Besides, I had lost a lot of weight – more than 50 pounds. And that excess skin at my eyelids, face and neck was making me look sickly. I had so much excess skin at the neck that i looked like a turkey. It shook and jiggled as I moved.
So I decided to do something about it.
I started by reading a lot. I’ve put a lot of that information here on this blog for you to see, too.
Cosmetic surgery has evolved as years passed. It started as a privilege only for the rich. Nobody even spoke about cosmetic surgery openly before. But now, views on cosmetic surgery have changed as new techniques and applications have been developed. It has become affordable and is something both women and men are doing in increasing numbers.
One of the most popular cosmetic surgery techniques is the face lift, clinically known as rhytidectomy. That’s what I chose, performed by a plastic surgeon near my suburban Detroit, Michigan home. A facelift procedure tackles age-related problems like sagging or looseness of skin and muscle tissues in the jawline, chin and other areas of the face. Facelifts are done to eliminate wrinkles and tighten the skin, making an aged face look younger, typically 10 to 15 years younger.
While the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery showed that three-fourths of procedures performed by surgeons in 2010 were non-surgical or the likes of botox injection or microdermabrasion , women and men over 35 were more on the surgical procedures like facelift and rhinoplasty.
Face lifts dramatically improve physical appearance. In the latest medical journal of the American Society of Surgeons, studies of patients who have undergone rhytidectomy confirmed that patients have rated themselves to look an average of 12 years younger after the surgery. Most of the patients in the study said the results met or exceeded their expectations. That was certainly my exp[experience.
The procedure typically lasts for two to four hours, depending on individual needs. Mine, because of the large amount of excess skin, took four and a half hours. It normally is an outpatient procedure, though sometimes, depending on the extent of the surgery, may rarely require overnight hospitalization. The surgeon makes an incision within the hairline. The incision heals quickly and is usually indistinguishable after several months.
A typical facelift has the surgeon separate the skin of the face from its tissues. The surgeon then tightens the muscles and the tissues so that sagging and looseness of the face will be addressed. Excess skin will also be trimmed from the edges of the original incision. You can see how much they took from me in the photos on my picture page. Sutures then close the incision.
One big downside: Most cosmetic surgery procedures are not covered by insurance. But many cosmetic surgeons offer very flexible financing.
The purpose of MyFaceliftSurgery.com is to help you understand what to expect with a face lift. So what I’ve done is share my experience. I am a 64 year-old man who had a face lift, eyelid (rhytidectomy) and neck surgery. I have detailed my story here, with lots of facelift photos that will help you see what every step of the surgery and recovery looked like.
